Sundays with Gage- The long and short of it

Gage’s grandpa (and new grandma) came to visit this weekend and it’s obvious he has a lot of growing to do.   Daddy is 6’4″ and Daddy’s daddy is 6’5″. When I took Gage to the doctor a month ago he measured in the 7th percentile for height, which got me nervous that he may have inherited Mommy’s legs.

So, I looked around for height predictors and came up with anywhere from 5’9″ to 5’11.5″, but this is based only on the height of the mother and father.  A more accurate indicator is the baby’s height at age 2.  They say by the time a baby is two if you double the height that will be their adult size.  We’ll have to wait for that one.

So, how tall are your kids compared to you and the father/mother?

My son is the same height as my husband. They are both six feet. My daughter and I are both five feet five inches. Not sure if that helps any! lol

  2. BermudaOnion says:

I wish I knew how tall Vance was when he was 2 so I could tell you if that’s true. I say don’t sweat it – he’s adorable and it won’t matter how tall he is.

    What a great pic!
Lets see, I’m 5’8 and my husband is 6’3. Our first born (daughter) is 5’9, our second born (son) is 6’4, and our 3rd born (daughter) is 5’11.
I question the 2x the height at age 2 theory. I don’t think my kids were approx. 3 feet tall at that age – seems really tall for a two year old, doesn’t it?

The 2 year old theory is one that I’ve read numerous places is the most accurate. And Jason’s Dad told me about it before I mentioned it because it worked for everyone in their family. It didn’t sound right to me either 🙂

Love the pictures. My daughter is 5’11’ and my sons are 6’3 and 6’2. I am 5’6 and my husband is 6′. My brothers are very tall.

  5. Kay says:

Stacy, I tried the whole double the height at age 2 thing with my daughter. Didn’t really work out. Think she was predicted to be 5’10”. She is 5’3″, but she was in the 90% category through age 10. At age 10, she was 5’3″ and she never grew another bit. One of the tallest in 4th grade and I think she was the tallest girl.

Now, my husband is 6’3″. I am 5’6″. He’s the odd one though because everyone else in his family is short. My daughter married a guy who is 6’6″. He has two brothers, one of whom is 6’7″ and the other is 6’11” and still growing at 19. Our girl was positive that she would be at least 5’10” and so disappointed when she wasn’t.

Gage will be darling however tall he gets, but he may well take off at some point. My daughter’s story in reverse. 🙂

That is a great picture of the 3 generations though. Gage is so cute!

I was one of the taller girls until about that time too, but tapped out at 5’2″. Those are some tall boys in your daughter’s life!

  6. Heather says:

Great pic! They said my husband would be over seven feet tall at age two! And he is only 6 ‘1’! So I don’t put a lot of stock into that one. You just never know what those genes are going to do!

  7. Stephanie D. says:

My goodness the dads are tall! I’m sure baby Gage will be over 6′ tall at least.

My son’s taller than all the men in my family and about the height of the men in his dad’s family.

  8. Misha says:

I am sure Gage will grow as tall as his dad and grandpa 🙂
Both my sister and I are just around 5’3″, but both our parents are much taller than us.

  9. Carol says:

    What a great picture!

Amber, at 11 is about four inches shorter than me, but I’m barely 5’1″. He dad is 5’8″, so I doubt she’ll be tall anyway.

  10. Gage's Grandma says:

He’s going to get tall – I’m guessing at least 6′. But it doesn’t matter, because he’s cute whatever his height. Adorable!

  11. Jenners says:

That is just the cutest little picture!!! Love it! I wish I’d known that … I don’t recall excatly how tall my son was at age 2. I know he tends to be on the tall side with other kids his age … which is odd considering Mr. jennies and I are both fairly short for our genders.

Gage has an eye for the camera. It’s like he’s saying, this is my photo! This is agreat picture.

My parents were not very tall, 5’5″ and 5’8″ maybe? I think the 5’8″ is stretching for my dad. I am 5’6″ and have almost always been one of the tallest girls in school my whole life. Wouldn’t be bad, except most of the neighborhood girls were short, little, Italian girls, with dark hair and complexion. Me? I am fair and had strawberry blonde hair, which is now darker. Stuck out like asore thumb girl!

  13. Teddyree says:

That is just the cutest photo lol

My boys are both much taller than their father and me. Both are almost 6ft which is quite surprising, Callum was 2 months premmie and both boys had quite a lot of steroids for asthma as little ones.

  14. Trish says:

Oh Stacy! He is just too cute!

I have a feeling our kids will be short. I’m only 5’6″ and my husband is barely 5’10”. All of my siblings and his siblings are short but our cousins are very tall. Go figure.

  15. Bumbles says:

I love that cute little melon! Seriously – do you just sit and want to smooch him all day? Gage that is – no offense to daddy of course.

Well, I am only 5′ 4″ and both my parents are pretty tall. My mother always wonders where I got the short gene from. Me too.
